Each topic gets a 0–100 score that blends four parts: velocity (how fast attention is growing), volume (how large it is), an estimated advertising value of the category, and a coverage gap (how few monitored outlets cover it, and whether an official primary source exists).
Signals come from: Wikipedia daily page-view rankings, Google Trends (RSS), Google News and Google/Bing suggestions, Reddit and Hacker News, official feeds (BLS, BOE, CPSC recalls, EIA, FDA recalls, Federal Reserve, IGN sismologia, La Moncloa, MLB, NASA, NOAA NHC, NWS alerts, USGS), and the news sitemaps of 10 monitored outlets.
Topics about people (biographies), deaths, violence, missing persons, nudity or leaks, and health/medical topics are never shown here. Whether something is a person is checked against Wikidata; if that check fails, the topic is hidden.
